The 105-room hotel is being built near the intersection of Route 1 and Marsh Road near Five Points Square. It will be a Hyatt House, the company’s extended stay brand offering suite rooms with kitchenettes.

The plan for the hotel won approval in fall 2019. Harvey, Hanna & Associates (HHA) says it recently broke ground on the site.

The new hotel will be next to a Home2Suites by Hilton that opened in September. That hotel is owned by the Caggiano family of Nicola’s Pizza.

The Hyatt House is one of several new hotels developed near the Delaware beaches in the past two years, and the second Hyatt project in Delaware by HHA. The developer built the Hyatt Place hotel in Dewey Beach, which opened in 2013.

The new hotel will be operated by TKo Hospitality Management, an affiliate of HHA that runs 10 hotels in Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland, including the Surf Club Oceanfront Hotel and Hyatt Place in Dewey Beach, and the Springfield Suites in Newark.

The company will also operate the Hyatt Place under construction on Newark’s Main Street, and a recently announced Hyatt Place in Kent Marrows, Maryland, which is also being developed by HHA.

Thomas J. Hanna, president of HHA, said that while the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the hospitality industry, he believes business will bounce back in the region.

“We strongly believe in the fundamentals that exist within the mid-Atlantic’s drive-to resort markets,” he said in a statement.
